First, an audiological evaluation is completed to rule out any deficit to the outer/middle/inner ear. During the auditory processing evaluation, the auditory signal is manipulated in many different ways to challenge the auditory system. All tests are presented with earphones, using standardized test materials, in a sound treated booth. The goal of the evaluation is to describe the auditory strengths and weaknesses of the individual for the purposes of assigning educational accommodations, goals, compensatory strategies and implementing therapy. You will receive an thorough report including background information, current concerns, test results, interpretation of the results and evidence-based recommendations.
The objective is to identify the individual's specific auditory processing deficits (which are associated with a specific academic and communication difficulties) and train the auditory system to process speech and other sounds more accurately and efficiently. Dr. DeSanto is trained in Buffalo Model Therapy and ListenLoveLearn Therapy.
